Stewardship Committee

What is the Stewardship Committee and What Do They Do?

The Stewardship Committee is a standing committee appointed and supervised by the Board of Elders. It promotes the principle that Christian stewardship is "the free and joyous activity of the child of God and God's family, the Church, in managing all of life and life's resources for God's purpose." It strives to: educate the members of the congregation about the God-pleasing use of the time, talents, and treasures which God richly pours forth; witness to and, by example, foster the understanding and practice of sacrificial and proportionate giving in regard to time, talents, and treasures for the work of the Lord; and encourage, motivate, and assist the members of the congregation toward attaining that goal.

The Stewardship Committee holds up before the members of the congreation the truth that:

  • all time, all talents, and all treasures in life belong to and are gifted to us by God; and
  • we as recipients of those good gifts, are accountable before God in their prudent use for the work which the Lord of the Church has given us to do.

It works in cooperation with the annually appointed Nominating Committee in facilitating the use of each member's time and talents in the most effective way for collectively accomplishing the work which the Lord Jesus has given to His Church to do.

Regarding the stewardship of God-given treasures (money and possessions), it upholds the Biblical principle recorded in 2 Corinthians 8:12 (NIV):

"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."

The Committee encourages members of the congregation toward an appropriately proportional and sacrificial response to God's many blessings in their lives and conducts, as needed, Stewardship Workshops for the purpose of communicating to the members of the congregation the on-going necessity of being faithful stewards of God's gifts in their lives.
